The hubby and I have bachelor degrees! I realize it isn’t that rare; even Master’s degrees are becoming commonplace and more competitive. But when the diploma is your own, it seems all the grander. As our commencement speaker said, “You now have the right to apply.” The doors to my dream jobs, once closed, were flung open December 15. Right now, I sit across from my husband in Starbucks, sipping a Mocha, as he applies for work. We have hand-picked each place his resume is being sent to, in order of our preferences. Places like Colorado, Maine, Washington, and Oregon are being thrown around as legitimate possibilities. Possibilities only because of that piece of paper we were awarded three weeks ago.

Our first Christmas together. Legitimately. Two Christmases ago, John and I had just met and the Christmas holiday was a blessed reprieve from this annoying guy in my class who wouldn’t leave me alone. Last Christmas I was madly in love with the annoying guy and sporting his engagement ring, but we chose to spend one last Christmas apart, celebrating with our families before marriage altered our childhood traditions. This Christmas, as you can see, we were together. We spent it with his side of the family. Some baking (don’t add mint oil to a meringue!), a walk through the woods, a 3-D puzzle and an empty theater showing of The Adventures of Tintin.

Happy New Year. We greeted 2012 at my folks’ place. (Regrettably, I didn’t think to get a group picture.) The most significant detail for our new year was that we finally had SNOW!!! I’ve never celebrated a brown Christmas before; not to be corny, but the landscape really was “depressing as dirt.” So the blustery weather surrounding New Year’s–even when we had to drive home in it–couldn’t bring a complaint from me. Cozy evenings drinking tea, playing Rumicub with my family, some movies and some visitors kept us relaxed. And since we spent most of those days writing multiple cover letters for job applications, relaxed was an important state to find.

Now that all these time consuming events are behind me, I should be back to blogging soon. I’ve already got a couple post topics in play in my mind. These next weeks of job searching should bring lots of wifery things to say!
